BB-8 : All Hands On Deck!

It’s Droid Maintenance Day!

The month of December heralds the last few weeks and days of my “366 Days of BB-8” Photo Project.  It’s becoming harder and harder to come up with fresh ideas so I constantly find myself looking at my earlier posts, especially those from the year 2015, to find inspiration.  I also am now resorting to re-imagining past themes, such as my Sphero BB-8 being tended to by LEGO Minifigures.  Normally, it would be the Rey Minifigure doing the maintenance, but I remembered that my LEGO X-Wing set had some Resistance Ground Crew Minifigures so I swapped Rey for them this time.

BB-8 : The Millennium Falcon.

“That BB unit…the First Order is looking for one just like it!”

Quote from one of the scenes in the movie, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.

This is the LEGO Millennium Falcon, model # 75105.

Ranked #2 in my all-time favourite LEGO set, only surpassed by Poe’s X-Wing Fighter that I wrote about in this previous post.

I have never featured the Millennium Falcon on all its glory, so here it is.  Just like how I took the photo of the X-Wing Starfighter, I set this scene up outdoors so I can use as much light as I can.  It was quite windy, though, so initially I didn’t like how it turned out because when I magnified the photo, I found a lot of dust on the floor which when now viewed here on the Internet is not noticeable after all!

This LEGO set is truly magnificent to me.  What Star Wars fan can’t resist getting this in their collection?  It is such an iconic ship from the movie!  I think I mentioned before that I had to sell my other camera gear just so I can fund the purchase of this set.  It was all worth it!

Here’s an alternative photo that I took of it:

I took this one in our garage.  I wanted to add the texture of the concrete floor in the scene.  However, I was not very happy with the lighting.  It looked good, but from the angle that I took it, all the Minifigures are hardly scene.  Maybe I will re-visit this location and try a better angle and shot.

BB-8 : Too Big for a Droid.

“I told you it wouldn’t fit,” Han complains to Chewie.

I have been racking my brain on how best to feature my LEGO Millennium Falcon.  It is such an awesome set, but the interior of the ship is too small for any scene that would include my Sphero BB-8.  I only came up with this idea of putting BB-8 on top to show the scale of the thing only after a few trial-and-errors of doing inside shots.  Maybe later I can come up with something more creative; the ship’s inside is too cool to not to be featured!

BB-8 : A Big One.

“I don’t remember it being this big,” Han Solo wondered, “Do you, Chewie?”

A big one indeed!

For you Star Wars fans out there, that is the Han Solo LEGO Minifigure with his trusty sidekick, Chewbacca!

And look!  That’s my new LEGO Millennium Falcon!

I wrote earlier about how I got my LEGO BB-8 Minifigure which I featured first here.  To be able to get one, one needs to either buy it from eBay at a price that is quite high for an individual minifigure or get one of the big Star Wars LEGO Playsets, which are quite pricey.  One of those sets is the Millennium Falcon set 75105.

I just had to get me a Millennium Falcon so I bit the bullet and got one, finally!  There were other versions of the Falcon before based on earlier movies.  LEGO re-released it for “The Force Awakens” movie and included characters from that movie, including an aged Han Solo.  I am glad I got this version after holding out for so long.  Not only do I get BB-8, Han Solo and Chewbacca, but I also get a bunch of other characters that I will feature soon.

The highlight of the set is of course the Millennium Falcon.  It took me a solid 5-6 hours to put the thing all together.  The set has 1329 pieces and it was a fun build and once completed, it looked really awesome!

I am very excited to get to feature this set with BB-8.  Tune in for that!
